I have always had a passion for being creative. Anyone remember HomeEc classes? Aside from Math, that was my favorite class. I could make things from materials and the outcome was always very rewarding. I designed and made all my Halloween costumes and my children’s; they always had the coolest costumes in town. As I grew out of the costume making stage, I turned to making and giving meaningful, personalized gifts to family and friends for birthdays, holidays and special occasions.
How Did WetBellies Come To Be?
Being a former teacher, daycare provider and mother of two, I have acquired a hyperawareness of how germs are spread. For years, I struggled with the idea of how to deal with opening the produce bags found at the grocery store. The thought of licking my fingers to open these bags after touching door handles and grocery carts, and anything else others touch, was a real struggle for me personally. One day at the grocery store, I was behind a young person struggling to open a bag when they licked their fingers to open the bag, after which they picked up a cucumber to put in their bag. Apparently, they changed their mind and put the cucumber back into the pile and grabbed another. That behavior told me that it was definitely time to curtail this germ spreading activity.
Then the real question arose, “what can I do and how can I create a solution to this ongoing decades-old problem of trying to open those dreaded produce bags without the germ factor.” I thought long and hard about what I could create that would take care of this issue once and for all. That’s when WetBellies was born.
What Are WetBellies?
WetBellies are a sanitary finger-wetting device that can be used in place of licking ones fingers to open those pesky grocery bags, count money, turn pages of a book, etc. I made them to be aesthetically pleasing and serve this purpose. They began as silhouettes of animals with exposed anti-microbial sponge bellies and evolved into very detailed, personally expressive, eye-catching WetBellies. Each one comes with a keychain and a clasp.
WetBellies are easy to use. Just run the exposed sponge under water for a few seconds, attach it to your purse, belt loop or other piece of clothing/accessory/zipper pull and it will remain moist for hours, allowing you to run errands before going to the grocery store.
